Created to accompany MYSTICAL WEAPONS’ new track, Colony Collapse Disorder is a frenzied voyage into the occult and spiritual realms. Conceived as a sonic experiment, Mystical Weapons is composed of  American musicians SEAN LENNON and Deerhoof’s GREG SAUNIER, taking on an improvision-only philosophy for their musical collaboration. Evoking the energy of psychedelic music in Seventies Berlin, Colony Collapse Disorder came from the first improv session  Saunier and Lennon had before deciding to make a record together. Having previously worked alongside of Saunier for his San-Francisco based noise band Deerhoof, American artist MARTHA COLBURN visualises the recording, meshing layer upon layer of animated paper cuts, pastels and paintings that bring Colburn’s world of the fantastical into play. Colburn juxtaposes contemporary images of pixelated galaxies with rapidly wheeling ancient symbols and deities such as a decaptitated Shiva and peaceful Buddha. In a revelry of colour, Colony Collapse Disorder’s magnifies a playful and psychedelic dimension where cosmic and mythological forces of all the ages unite through an apocalyptic continuum.
