If you’ve read the first issue of The Third Eye magazine, then you’ll already know the Berlin-based Superfly Suspension Crew. Founded by American tattoo artist Chandler Barnes, Superfly is a suspension collective based in Berlin, with members such as Mexican tattoo artist Beto Rea (Kukulcan Rituals) and German tattoo artist Andrea (White Light Tattoo). Every summer, the Superfly Crew make a camp in the forests of Germany, and spend a week suspending and flying in the trees. This year, the summer camp was held in the forest near the town of Wittstock/Dosse in north-western Germany.
The revival of the art and practice of suspension takes ancient roots in the rituals and Sun Dance ceremonies of several North-American Indian tribes such as the Sioux and Mandan, as well as Hindu practices.
